Sew & Social is a relaxed, in-person sewing session for people who already sew and would enjoy spending a few uninterrupted hours working on their own projects in the company of others.

You bring your own project and work at your own pace in a spacious, well-equipped studio. You’re free to chat, share ideas, or simply enjoy quiet, focused making — whatever suits you on the day.

What Sew & Social offers

  • Uninterrupted sewing time
Several dedicated hours to focus on your own work, away from everyday distractions.

  • A large, well-equipped studio
A bright, spacious textile studio with plenty of room to work comfortably.

  • A genuinely social sewing space
Sew alongside others who enjoy making. Chat if you want to, work quietly if you prefer — both are equally welcome.

  • Shared knowledge and ideas
These sessions naturally lend themselves to swapping tips, techniques, patterns, and ideas. Many people find inspiration simply from seeing what others are working on and talking things through informally.

  • Experienced support available
An experienced sewer will be present throughout the session and happy to offer advice, suggestions, or troubleshooting if you’d like it, while you continue working independently.

  • Tea and coffee provided
Help yourself to hot drinks throughout the session.

Who Sew & Social is for

Sew & Social is ideal if you:

  • already sew and have a project you want to work on

  • enjoy sewing alongside others in a relaxed environment

  • value access to experience and advice without a formal class structure

You don’t need to be an expert — just comfortable working on your own projects.

What to expect

These sessions are informal and flexible. There’s no fixed agenda and no set teaching content. You work on whatever you choose, at your own pace, with support available if you need it.

Some people come to concentrate quietly. Others enjoy chatting and sharing ideas. Both are welcome.

Equipment and what to bring

Available in the studio:

  • irons and ironing boards

  • cutting mats

  • overlocker (by arrangement)

Please bring:

  • your own sewing machine (with power lead and foot pedal)

  • your project and any materials or tools you need

The social side of Sew & Social

While everyone comes to work on their own projects, Sew & Social has a naturally friendly, sociable feel.

People often:

  • share ideas and problem-solve together

  • swap patterns, notions, or fabric suggestions

  • talk through design decisions

  • enjoy encouragement and fresh perspectives

There’s no pressure to participate in conversation — but for those who enjoy it, the shared enthusiasm for sewing creates an easy sense of connection.

Many attendees tell us that this balance of focused making and relaxed social interaction is what keeps them coming back.

Why people come back

People return to Sew & Social because:

  • the studio is a genuinely enjoyable place to spend time

  • they get more done than they do at home

  • ideas flow more easily when working alongside others

  • help and encouragement are close at hand

  • it feels social without being overwhelming

It’s about sewing — but it’s also about enjoying the process in good company.

Swap & share

If you’d like to, you’re welcome to bring along patterns, sewing books, notions, or small pieces of fabric you no longer need.

Many people enjoy swapping ideas, resources, and recommendations informally during the session — it’s entirely optional, but often a lovely part of the day.

There’s no obligation to bring anything, and no expectation to take anything home — it’s simply an opportunity to share and inspire.
