Problem Solving is Essential in Business
Having found the new space we needed to expand we were faced with one problematic detail…it was not actually available. That is to say it was occupied by someone who, while they did not want or use it they, were unable to vacate it. It was 180 sq. meters stuffed to the rafters with obsolete technology that had been stored in there for decades. Also the owner of the stuff and occupier of the space was not in the rude health required to empty it and exit stage right!
As it was our first…in fact our only choice we set about assisting the process and worked hard for many months clearing the space. Then there was the dead birds and decades of pigeon poo, the broken windows, crumbling walls, no lighting, rotting wooden floor, no water…you get the picture. The first thing you do is get everything out, the old electrics, walls…however as soon as the space was clear, it was every bit as great as we envisaged. By now we were in September 2022 and the very long to-do list was growing daily. Just at a time when the economy was on the floor, material and labour costs were rising to the degree people were meeting us each morning with an update on the price of wood. For a few weeks we were following the meter price of 2 by 4 rather than silk! I will not dwell on the sand blasting we decided to do as the first work! Except to say when we finished we were grateful not to have known what we were getting into. We loved the results but would never have sandblasted if we had known what it would be like…so we are delighted we did not! With support from some great trades people and our endless positivity and happiness the end of 2022 saw the space much improved and us on track to welcome 2023 with optimism that our original vision was good and we were on course for success. By the end of January it was unrecognisable from the space we walked into…we had new windows, fully plaster boarded, damaged walls rebuilt, sandblasted stone arches and walls, a beautiful curved wall, new toilets, lovely bi-fold doors…it is looking great and hinting at what it will look like when finished.
