If you can keep your head…

keeping your head will help…but may not solve everything!

I have two very lovely, entertaining cats who in my mind are perfect…they are however country cats and they have always loved chasing, catching and eating the many field mice in the countryside round our cottage.

I gave up long ago trying to make them love birds and mice and now consider it a great success if I manage to free one in 100 of their victims before it is dead. It is necessary to accept the cycle of life and embrace their wildness, at least they do eat most of them, some escape them and others are just toys.

Today my little black & white baby who normally eats her prey under the kitchen table decided she needed a change and I considered the remains rather artistic…unintentional on her part. It was however a surprise to find her work on my bedroom windowsill. The words of Mr. Kipling came to mind and it occurred to me that even if you can keep your head…if you fail to keep the rest of you it would be of little use!!!

It is not unusual for me to find mice heads round the cottage…and I have often thought how I could make them into jewellery, this particular mouse is rather ugly but many of them are pretty little things or perhaps get the flesh off and use the skulls…perhaps they could form a collection for the Studio.

Here is the little cat (artist) in question…Kiki who may soon have her own line of jewellery in a boutique near you!

…I think this will make a lovely hatpin!
