Horizontality and Verticality

The 1951 Joan Charnley thesis ‘Horizontality and Verticality; The importance of stripe in textile design’ will form the relaunch exhibition at The Weavers Factory, the gallery of which she is patron. Read the full story of The Weavers Factory.

The Design and Sewing Studio is delighted to be a small part of this remarkable celebration of the important role Joan’s designs have and continue to play in twentieth century textile design. We have been commissioned to reflect one of Joan’s fabrics ‘Stars and Stripes’ as a garment contemporary to the era. You will be able to see the work in January 2022 when the exhibition opens at The Weavers Factory.

As a designer I enjoy the time I spend developing ideas and creating beautiful things. As a human being I enjoy the time I spend developing myself.
